What you see here is one choice for how your front end can look. Your interface with this desktop can be fully customized, it can be made to look anyway you like. My 8 year old son uses this for his homework and to keep up with pictures and videos, and in my opinion this is the best way to personally interact with a computer and the internet. This is Drupal, its the same program used by the White House, State of Georgia and Harvard, the only difference is that in this application it is used as a personal device instead of as the advanced web management tool it is famous for.

Generally permissions would be set so that only you or co- workers could see content. Content can be sent as email, or you can have content specific for one or more persons to see. Your ability to communicate, and gather information is greatly enhanced as content can include images, sound and video. This desktop can be customized with modules that can do accounting, manipulate the underlying database, view cameras... it can do almost anything you could imagine.
